If you are interested in his bicoastal upbringing and the details of his parent marriage, you will enjoy this book. However, it isn't a true memoir. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Tiffany -- Let Love Rule Indeed : All I can say about this book is wow. I am speechless how beautifully vulnerable and heartfelt Lenny gave us his soul in this book. It was as though Lenny was in front of me telling me about his life. The story is not only a story of an artist finding his self but how love ruled his life growing up with a nourishing mother and a God who never left him. I really hope Lenny writes a sequel to this wonderful story. The way he writes with so much tenderness and love about his family has melt my heart and filled my soul. I learned a lot about not only about Lenny Kravitz the artist but about Lenny the loving son father and husband. Please read this memoir you wont be disappointed. Even if your not a fan of Lennys music this is a profound story with a very powerful message about being true to your self despite of the many obstacles in life. I found it a surprisingly intimate and even brutally honest self examination. It is fascinating to read about his family and famous influences and get an insight into all the things that make Lenny Kravitz a leading creative genius of our time. His spiritual life is also an interesting exploration and a mind opening window into the power of his epic talent and music. I was glad to read another book will be coming as I am so intrigued and wishing to read more from him the person so true to his own voice sharing his divine and creative inspirations. I didn't know that much about his background besides the fact that he's the son of legendary actress, Roxy Roker. After reading this book I learned about his challenges in finding his own voice and true musicianship, and how perfect his timing was with finding the right songs to accept a record deal that would fit his style of music. It's a story of searching and finding one's path through faith, friends and family but not in a corny made for TV way - Kravitz shares life in its complexity, very tender and real. I knew about him, his mom and Lisa Bonet but not all the other tidbits. Like his dad, grandparents, friends, etc. It was refreshing to see a childhood that was mostly happy. Lenny reflected on what a great life he had which tends not to be the norm. Even his clashes with his father, he realized it was what made Lenny who he was. As for some reviews talking about name dropping, I did not really experience this. Yes, lots of famous people were brought up. I didn't see it as name dropping. It was his experience. It was what he grew up with, the people he met, the people that surrounded him and his family. I would of been disappointed if he would've just said... "some famous person". As a fan of Lennys this book was a great incite into his upbringing and even if I wasn’t a fan it’s a great look into the life of a young half black, half Jewish boy growing up in such a artistic world created by his parents and grandparents in the 60s, 70s and 80s. It was not deliberately shocking with scandalous drama. There were things that were shocking but it was obviously written from the heart, I’m not sure why that was surprising considering. The overwhelming majority of the book focuses on his early life and then towards the end of the book he meets Lisa Bonet and becomes the Lenny Kravitz as we know him. And that's it.
